A couple of years ago, Arwen Smit shared a TEDx Talk titled 'Blockchain-based Identity Could Save Democracy.' In it, she talks about how our identities are the foundation for democracy. Then, she argues that part of the way we can create more reliable, accountable democracies is by taking more control over our identities by controllling who has access to the information about us.

I think one of the important things to reflect on here is that reforming democracies isn't just about fixing voting systems. It should involve dealing with myriad underlying issues, including something as foundational as identity.

I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on the video and how you see privacy/identity as an important element in the conversation on democracy. Do you think Smit's vision of a blockchain based fix for this could work?
