Looks like they've just put out a report on the progress we're making in our pursuit of worldwide safe drinking water and sanitation.

Unfortunately, we're not making progress quickly enough to meet the UN's Sustainable Development Goals set in 2015. Acccording to the latest date, we'll need to see safe drinking water "rates of progress more than triple (increase 3.2-fold) for the coming decade." That doesn't bode well. And things look even bleaker when you realize that 46% of the world doesn't have access to safe sanitation. This is one of humanity's greatest needs and we're falling this far behind? How can this be? Shouldn't our brightest minds - thought leaders and entrepreneurs - be working overtime to come up with innovative solutions for this problem? Has anyone seen any ideas that show promise for meeting these needs?

There are some phenomenal ideas out there that are targeting this precise problem. A couple of years ago, Goodnet put out a pretty cool list of seven technologies that are designed to offer better access to clean water for people around the world. The one that stood out to me was the 'Fog Catcher.' Basically, it was a device that transformed fog into drinkable water as it passed across the device. They need to set some of those up in Washington state. They could provide clean water around the country for free if they did that  .
